What is Probate?

Probate is the handling and distribution of assets owned by a person after their death.

When is probate required?

Probate is required when a person dies with an asset in their individual name with no beneficiary listed. 

What is an asset?

An asset is something owned by a person. For example, a bank account, a vehicle, a home, a retirement account, etc. 

How long is the probate process?

Depending on the value of the assets, the process can be as little as 40 days or it can take up to 9 months. 

Do I have to pay for the debts of the Deceased?

No. All debts of the Deceased will be paid for with assets of the Deceased.
